Kids, Parents, and Cell Phones
The average 13 to 17-year-old sends 2000 text messages a month!
The average age to first own a cell phone is between 9 and 10.
The average age to borrow a cell phone is 8.
By age 12, fully three-fourths of all children have their own mobile phone.
Parental use of advanced data services mirrors that of their tween kids. If their children text, then 80% of parents will text as well.
Nearly 60% of parents of cell phone-owing kids have forbidden downloads of games, ringtones, and videos, the extra items that often incur a charge.

Class Update

Here's a quick list of items that we have been learning about. Ask us to tell you about them!

1. Sight Words (since the beginning of school)- and, a, am, can, go, have, I, in, is, it, like, my, the and we. Upcoming words are "me" and "said". Create your own word wall at home and add these words. See http://ezinearticles.com/?Top-30-Fun-Ways-to-Teach-Sight-Words&id=743909 for games to help you practice learning your sight words. We should be able to read, spell and write all of these words.

2. In Math, we are wrapping up our unit of counting and comparing. Our next unit of study is patterns. Look for the family letter coming home tomorrow.

3. In Science and Social Studies we have been studying Farms and the things that they provide for us. We've also been talking about Fall and the changes that it brings. We're looking now at pumpkins and how they are grown and harvested. We're continuing to use our five senses to find out about our world.

4. We learned nursery rhymes and rhyming words. Check out out video below!

Miss Ralston's Class Update

Wondering what’s been happening in Miss Ralston’s class??? Read our student created list below!!
1. We have been learning Frog Jump Capital Letters. Doing these handwriting routines helps us learn proper pencil grip and letter formation. Keep practicing F, E, D, P, B, R, N and M at home. Ask us to sing the Frog Jump Letter song.
2. We have been singing the Number Rock. Ask us to count to 20, or higher!
3. We have been learning with Math Tubs. We’ve played games called Attribute Block Match-up, Button Match-up and Counting Jar. We’ve also explored color tiles and the different designs we can make.
4. We’ve learned to start our letters at the top. We have a song for that, too!
5. We've played with IPODS. We have stories and learning songs loaded on them.
6. We have made new friends!!!
7. We have been learning A LOT!!!
8. We’ve been going to specials and playing new games. We’ve been reminded to wear Tennis Shoes for P.E. everyday except Friday, our art day.
9. We’ve been reading books. We’ve listened to reading, learned to read a book on our own, or with a partner. We learned there are 3 ways to read a book: Read the Pictures, Read the Words, or Retell the Story.
10. We’ve been doing morning work.
11. We’ve been learning to read.
12. We learned new sight words: like, I, my, and. Practice these at home!!!

We’re off to a great start!! Thanks for helping us reinforce these concepts at home.
